Free Bible Commentary

Soniclight.comSure you can drop a hundred dollars on a set of bible commentary. Throw it up on your book shelf and you will definitely impress a few of your friends. But here in the year twenty-ought-seven, why not go digital? Soniclight.com makes that happen for us.

Thomas L. Constable is the senior professor of Bible Exposition at Dallas Theological Seminary and he has degrees from Moody Bible Institute, Wheaton and DTS. Dr. Constable has made his expository notes on every book in the Bible available for free in PDF format. These are the same notes that he gives his students and teaches from. Dr. Constable’s notes are a work in-progress also, so they are often updated based on his own study. My favorite part of the notes is the historical background section that discusses the author, date and audience of each book

You can read an introduction to the notes from Dr. Constable here and get all of the notes in PDF format here. Check out a few of the study notes and see if this is something you might use to follow along with our study of the entire Bible here at ChurchHopping.

Josh-

What could you say about the quality and user friendliness of this free biblical commentary set? I would recommend the Word Biblical Commentary available for purchase at Logos Bible Software. It is perfect for any student, pastor, believer or scholar of the bible!

I agree that a commentary in Logos is probably the most user friendly, but not everyone wants to throw the cash into buying that software. If you don’t mind shelling out the cash then Logos is a great thing.

As for the quality, I have read quite a bit of what Dr. Constable teaches and have to say that I agree with his theology much more often than not. Though I have read concerns about some of the theology of the Word Biblical Commentary (see here)

I have edited your comment as I am sure you don’t want your address displayed for all the world to see. If you want a copy of the free Bible commentary you can download them from his website, soniclight.com, or I think there is an option to order them on CD for a very small price.
