Bible Study: Genesis 2

The B-I-B-L-EOne thing that stands out to me in Genesis 2 is the tree of life. What is that? You would think that a tree that gives life would have a little more description devoted to it. It seems weird too that they have such practical names. I wouldn’t be as tempted to eat a pine tree, but the tree of the knowledge of good and evil…that’s kind of asking to get eaten.

The descriptions of Havilah is out of context, since Adam and Eve would have really had no practical use for gold, since there was no economy or system of trade or currency in place.

You have to wonder what language was spoken by Adam also. Since there is no real sense of a timeline in this chapter, you wonder if God taught it to him or if he knew it as soon as he was created. By this time though he has it down enough to start giving animals names and a verse later he writes a little poem about woman. This also make you wonder if that is a direct quote or just passed down tradition? And if it is not a direct quote, how does that jive with the inerrancy of Scripture?

God takes a totally different approach when creating humans than anything else. Most everything else he just speaks and they are created from nothing. But for both man and woman he uses existing material to make them.

I find it funny that marriage is created and implemented in one verse, yet somehow the act of getting married and all that goes into it (especially now) is so much more complex.

inerrancy of scripture doesn’t mean that men can speak for God. only that what they say reveals the exact truth God wishes to be known.
