Bible Study: Genesis 9

The Digital BibleGod says in Genesis 9 that everything that lives shall be food for you, which I believe changes after the next covenant with Moses and only clean animals are allowed to be eaten. Or maybe that was just a perversion of the law by man, I will have to check. Either way this idea is reinstated by Paul much later. Verse 6 is a common reference when talking about the death penalty. It does seem that God implements this penalty right here.

The covenant with the rainbow has always been troublesome for me. It seems like something you would read in Greek mythology as opposed to the Bible. But it never says that the rainbow was created here, just that it now serves as a remembrance. Also this probably means that the movie Waterworld is never to become a reality (that doesn’t excuse us from being concerned about the environment).

Finally we have in this chapter a very juvenile act for a man who is about 100 years old. It does seem a little bit of an overreaction to curse your grandchildren, just because his father acts fairly immature.
